During this difficult time, we want to remind our patients to continue to take care of their teeth, as several dental problems may arise from feeling stress. Patients who feel overly stressed may be more prone to issues such as TMJ, mouth sores, and gum disease. Dr. James Dickert and Dr. Agatha Lynn are Charleston, SC dentists that are passionate about the health and safety of their patients. Here are some dental tips that Dr. Dickert, Dr. Lynn, and their professional dental team would like patients to remember:
Improve Your At-Home Routine
While you’re social distancing or self-quarantining dedicate some of this new time at home as dental care “me time.” Take the opportunity to get more in-depth with your home hygiene. Brush regularly with fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristle brush, floss, and use mouthwash frequently. Take this opportunity to try brushing after every meal, not just twice a day.
When you are bored and alone at home it can be tempting to snack on unhealthy food. Processed sugars in junk foods are one of the leading causes of tooth decay. Rather than candy or chips, try snacking on mouth-healthy celery or cheese. Avoid sodas and drink water as it washes away sugars in the mouth. Additionally, the fluoride in the water is mouth-healthy!
