Tooth BondingAn Overview

Tooth bonding can serve both cosmetic and restorative dentistry purposes, depending on your specific needs or dental concerns. This procedure can provide beautiful results for those who want to improve the appearance of their smile. A tooth that has been bonded will give the patient a healthier-looking and brighter smile.

With proper care and maintenance, a bonded smile can last many years. Highly trained and experienced cosmetic dentists, Dr. James Dickert and Dr. Agatha Lynn can provide natural-looking results with tooth bonding to treat a range of concerns.

Tooth bonding may be recommended to treat:

  • Chipped teeth
  • Cracked teeth
  • Discolored teeth
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Gaps between teeth

Tooth bonding is often an economical alternative to porcelain veneers. In many cases, it can be covered by your dental insurance. Dental bonding can be the perfect solution for minor cosmetic issues, young patients, or adult patients not ready for the commitment required with dental veneers. Tooth bonding, though not considered a permanent restoration, can last for 10 years or more with good dental care and oral hygiene.

Dental bonding is a quick and conservative treatment to enhance the appearance of the smile. The procedures can be completed in one office visit and typically requires no discomfort or anesthesia.

Tooth bonding is a procedure where tooth structure is added but not removed. This allows patients to receive other cosmetic treatment in the future or reverse their dental bonding if needed. In some cases, patients choose bonding because it is a cost-effective, natural-looking solution for their needs. We can provide you with excellent results so you are able to smile with confidence again.

Tooth Bonding What to Expect

At your consultation with Dr. Dickert and Dr. Lynn, they will assess your oral health and the condition of your smile and you will get a chance to discuss your cosmetic goals. A personalized treatment plan will be built to meet your goals. The tooth bonding process is similar to that of a dental filling and is completed during a single visit to our Charleston dentist office.

On the day of your treatment, your dentist will numb the area with a local anesthetic for your comfort. They will begin by preparing the tooth which includes removing a very small amount of tooth structure.

Your dentist will gently etch the surface of the teeth to ensure an adequate bonding surface for the composite resin. The surface of the tooth is etched using a mild liquid solution that is conservatively applied to the front of the affected tooth

We will choose the correct shade for your composite resin so that it blends in perfectly with the rest of your natural teeth. Your dentist will then carefully apply the color-matched composite resin onto the tooth.

They will skillfully sculpt it to the surface of your tooth until the desired shape is reached, blending it with your existing teeth. Once the overall appearance is aesthetically pleasing, the process will be completed by curing the material with a special light and polishing the surface for a natural luster and smooth appearance.
