Sedation dentistry is ideal for patients that have a fear of the dentist. Dental fear and anxiety keep patients from receiving the care they need. If patients aren’t visiting the dentist on a regular basis, oral health problems can escalate quickly. Common problems like tooth pain or sensitive gums can easily become cavities or gum disease if left unchecked.
Dr. James Dickert and Dr. Agatha Lynn offer dental sedation in Charleston, SC. They work with their patients to discover the best methods for calming, pain-free treatment. If you or a loved one require accommodations in order to visit the dentist, contact our office and our team can help.
Sedation also allows our dental team to perform more procedures in one dental visit. This is especially useful for patients with dental anxiety, as it means fewer trips to the office as well as a quicker treatment time. The type of dental sedation we use eliminates the need for needles, which is great for patients who have this specific phobia. Sedation dentistry is also a safe treatment method; we are always with our patients through every step of their treatment and monitor their reactions to ensure their comfort and safety.
Our Charleston office uses nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, to offer sedation to our patients during their dental procedures. Nitrous oxide is an odorless gas administered through a mask that is placed over the nose and mouth. Under nitrous oxide, patients feel calm and relaxed. Patients may also feel giggly, hence the name “laughing gas”. This sedation takes effect quickly and also wears off quickly, so patients who undergo this type of sedation do not need to be driven to and from their appointment.
